Chief Executive Officer Job Posting
The Vermont Association of REALTORS® (VAR), a dynamic, member-driven organization representing over 2,100 real estate professionals across the state, is seeking a visionary and collaborative Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned leader with deep industry knowledge, strategic insight, and a passion for advocacy and service to help shape the future of real estate in Vermont. The ideal candidate is a proven executive with a strong record of operational excellence, consensus-building, and integrity in a nonprofit or association environment. They will be a relationship-focused leader who understands the complexities of the real estate industry and is dedicated to advancing the interests of REALTORS® at both the state and local levels. This is a full-time, in-person role in beautiful Vermont. Key Responsibilities -
Strategic Plan:
Coordinate and implement the strategic planning process for the Board.
The plan must be reviewed and updated as needed at a minimum every two years.
The CEO manages the process including appropriate involvement of the Board and membership and reports progress at each board meeting.
The Strategic Plan shall be communicated by the CEO to the membership and shall operate as a guideline for Board, staff and relevant committees.
Staff:
Based on the strategic plan and objectives of the organization, establish staff structure for the VAR office.
Hire, train, direct and supervise all staff in accordance with staff job descriptions and approved budget.
Coordinate and oversee all independent contractors in accordance with established goals and approved budget.
Perform annual written evaluations of all staff in accordance with staff job descriptions and established goals.
Provide timely written notification to the Board of any staff changes.
Review and update the Personnel Manual annually to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and communicate completion and any changes made to the Board.
Board of Directors, Bylaws, Policies etc.:
Provide a detailed report at each board meeting as to the activities, finances, and any possible legal issues facing the Association.
Assist the Treasurer and Finance Committee and manage the finances of the Association, including preparation of the annual budget, monthly financial statements, and tax filings.
Operate the Association within the annual budget, current Strategic Plan, Bylaws, and Policies and Procedures.
Member Services:
Lead the delivery of a robust menu of member services to include a communications program, education, advocacy, and government affairs.
Serve as VAR Spokesperson at the direction of the President.
Coordinate and attend all meetings of the general membership, the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, conferences and summits. The CEO acts as staff liaison for the President's Council and all standing committees and workgroups unless delegated to a staff member.
Local Associations:
Assist, serve, train and cooperate with local association Presidents and AEs.
Oversee the certification of all local associations in accordance with NAR’s Core Standards and report status updates to the Board of Directors and NAR.
Regional and National:
Communicate with NAR regarding VAR Bylaws and governing document changes.
Oversee and coordinate the nomination and election process of VAR officers, National Directors and the recommendations of NAR committee appointments.
Attend all budgeted NAR membership meetings and the annual AE Institute.
Serve as New England Regional Conference (NERC) AE and organize the NERC conference in any year that a Vermont REALTOR® serves as NAR Regional Vice- President. (which will happen in 2026)
Support, coordinate and disseminate information of the National RPAC programs on state and local levels.
Facility:
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of any physical space leased or owned by the Association, including periodic review of insurance policies and governing documents.
Contract spaces for in-person meetings and special events as directed by the Board.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role, with a proven track record of managing teams and executing projects in REALTOR® Association(s), Multiple Listing Services and/or the real estate industry.
Designations such as the RCE and/or CAE designations.
You shall reside close enough to be on site/in person at the VAR office in Vermont to carry out the duties of the organization. Relocation assistance is available.
Compensation:
Base Salary of $110,000 - $130,000. VAR additionally offers a robust benefits package, including health insurance and a variety of other benefits.
