Chief Executive Officer Job Posting
The Portland Metropolitan Association of REALTORS® (“PMAR”) is seeking an experienced, collaborative leader as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of its 7000+-member Association. The Portland Metropolitan Association of Realtors® (PMAR) is a non-profit trade association dedicated to promoting and enhancing the Realtor® member’s ability to conduct business ethically, professionally, and profitably. The members of PMAR are committed to protecting and promoting homeownership, establishing and maintaining high professional standards of practice, and creating unity in the real estate profession. PMAR’s next CEO will be a strategic and visionary thinker; passionate for making a positive impact, a strong communicator, and has a proven track record of effectively managing teams and executing projects. The position will be in person/on site at PMAR’s office in Portland, Oregon.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Recommends and participates in the formulation of new policies and makes decisions within existing policies as approved by the Board of Directors.
• Ensures that the Board of Directors and Executive Committee are kept fully informed as to the conditions and operations of the Association and important factors influencing them. Attends meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee (non-voting member, per PMAR Bylaws).
• Serves as Corporate Secretary of PMAR.
• Plans, formulates and recommends for the approval of the Executive Committee or Board of Directors, policies and programs which will further the objectives of the Association as identified and approved in the current Strategic Plan.
• Executes all decisions of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors except when the duty to do so is specifically assigned to someone else by the Board.
• Establishes a sound organizational structure for the headquarters office.
• Has full authority to hire, manage, and terminate all PMAR employees, within the established budget. Maintains competitive compensation and benefit packages consistent with industry standards and the local employment marketplace. Administers an effective personnel program, which includes position descriptions, performance standards and appraisals, and personnel policies. Upon determination of a staff bonus pool by the Board of Directors, the distribution of such bonuses shall be at the sole discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
• Provides the necessary liaison and staff support to committee chairs and committees to enable them to accomplish the objectives of the Strategic/Business Plan. Ensures that committee decisions and recommendations are submitted to the Executive Committee or Board of Directors, per PMAR policy.
• Executes such contracts and commitments as may be authorized by the Board of Directors, established policies and/or the annual budget.
• In cooperation with the Budget Committee, Executive Committee and Board of Directors, develops a proposed annual budget in furtherance of the objectives contained in the Strategic/Business Plan.
• Manages PMAR operations within the approved annual budget, as amended from time to time. Ensures that all funds, physical assets and other property of the Association are appropriately safeguarded and administered.
• Responsible for maintaining official minutes of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and other official meetings of the Association, provides security for all files, legal and historic documents, membership, and mailing lists.
• Reviews and signs accounts payable checks; obtains countersignatures per established policy.
• Ensures the legal integrity of the Association through regular communications and reports to legal counsel.
• Maintains effective relationships with other organizations, both public and private, and sees that the position of the Association and its members is enhanced in accordance with the policies and objectives of the Association.
• Attends RMLS and OREF board meetings (non-voting member).
• Represents PMAR at Portland Metropolitan Chamber board meetings (non-voting member).
• Performs such other general responsibilities as may be delegated by the President, Board of Directors, or Executive Committee.
Performance Standards:
Performance shall be based on the following general criteria:
• Officers, committee chairmen and other leaders of the Association are fully informed as to the activities and plans in their particular area.
• The headquarters office is efficiently and effectively organized for the maximum benefit of the Association.
• Programs of the Association are well managed through planning, organization, coordination, supervision and evaluation.
• Staff members are efficiently and effectively utilized to the maximum benefit of the Association.
• Committee liaison is supportive, timely and effective.
• Meetings of the Association are well managed through planning, organization, coordination, supervision and evaluation.
• Available systems and techniques are effectively utilized to provide two-way communications between the Association and its various membership and leadership segments.
• The policies and procedures offered for consideration to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors add to the constructive orderly growth of the Association in accordance with the Strategic Plan.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role, with a proven track record of managing teams and executing projects in REALTOR® Association(s), Multiple Listing Services and/or the real estate industry.
- Designations such as the RCE and/or CAE designations.
- Resides close enough to be on site/in person at the PMAR office in Portland, Oregon to carry out the duties of the organization. Relocation assistance is available. Compensation:
Base Salary of $225,000 - $250,000. PMAR additionally offers a robust benefits package, including health insurance and a variety of other benefits.
