The Greater Hartford Association of REALTORS® (GHAR) is seeking a highly effective executive who brings the leadership presence, discernment, business acumen, and interpersonal skills necessary to advance the Association’s mission and lead the organization into its next chapter.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead Connecticut's largest local REALTOR® association at a time when the real estate profession is evolving rapidly. The next CEO will partner with an engaged Board of Directors, dedicated volunteer leaders, and a talented professional staff to strengthen member value, advance strategic initiatives, and position the Association for continued success.

For more than a century, GHAR has served as the trusted voice of the real estate profession throughout the Greater Hartford region, providing advocacy, education, professional standards, technology, and essential services that help REALTORS® succeed while promoting homeownership and strong communities.

The Association now seeks a strong leader who can build upon this legacy while embracing innovation, cultivating strategic partnerships, and preparing the organization for its next chapter.

The Opportunity

  • Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer serves as the Association’s chief staff executive and strategic leader.

  • The CEO will provide strategic leadership, translating the Board’s vision into clear organizational priorities and ensuring that resources and initiatives are aligned with the Association’s mission and long-term goals.

  • The CEO will ensure operational excellence across the organization, establishing clear priorities, empowering staff leaders, driving effective execution, and fostering continuous improvement.

  • The CEO will provide overall leadership for the Association’s operations, financial stewardship, member services, advocacy efforts, programs, and professional staff.

  • Success in this role requires an executive who is equally comfortable developing long-term strategy, advising volunteer leadership, leading organizational change, and strengthening relationships with members and industry partners.

  • The CEO should be an accessible, collaborative leader who listens well, communicates openly and consistently, and inspires confidence among staff, volunteers, members, and external stakeholders.

  • The CEO will foster a high-performing culture grounded in integrity, innovation, and respect.

  • The CEO will champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by encouraging diverse perspectives, promoting equitable opportunities, and ensuring that the Association’s programs, services, leadership opportunities, and engagement practices are accessible and welcoming to people from all backgrounds.

  • The CEO will ensure the Association remains responsive to the evolving needs of its members and the real estate industry.

  • The Chief Executive Officer shall not be actively engaged in the real estate business.


The Ideal Candidate

Is a strong association leader who has demonstrated success leading organizations through growth and change while working effectively with volunteer boards, professional staff, and diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of senior executive leadership experience, preferably within a trade association, nonprofit, or similarly complex membership organization.

  • Demonstrated success working with governing boards and volunteer leadership and building productive partnerships between volunteers and staff.

  • Knowledge of the real estate industry and/or REALTOR® association structure and culture is highly valued.

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree and/or RCE or CAE designation preferred.

  • Resides within a reasonable commuting distance of GHAR’s Hartford, Connecticut office and be able to work on site/in person. Relocation assistance is available.

Compensation

GHAR offers a competitive executive compensation package with a salary range of $225,000 - $250,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience, together with a benefits program including medical insurance and additional employee benefits.
