The Conejo Simi Moorpark Association of REALTORS® (“CSMAR”) is seeking an experienced, collaborative leader as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of its 1,850-member Association, taking CSMAR to the next level of member success. As the trusted “Voice for Real Estate”, CSMAR promotes ethical standards and professional development opportunities, strengthens REALTOR® involvement in the community, and advocates for real property ownership and private property rights. CSMAR’s next CEO will be a strategic and visionary thinker; passionate for making a positive impact, a strong communicator, and has a proven track record of effectively managing teams and executing projects. The position will be in person/on site at CSMAR’s office in Thousand Oaks, California.
Position Description: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible to the Board of Directors for the effective conduct of Association business. The CEO recommends and participates in the formulation of the Association’s mission, goals and objectives, budget and related policies. Within that framework, the CEO plans, organizes, coordinates, controls and directs Association staff, programs and activities. The CEO works closely with the Association’s elected and appointed leaders to ensure that the Association goals are achieved. The CEO also serves as staff liaison between the Association’s standing committees and the Board of Directors and keeps the Association leadership aware of governmental issues, which may impact the Association’s membership. As a strategic and visionary thinker, the CEO can represent and articulate the values and needs of the Association to a broader external audience simultaneously encouraging partnerships and fostering relationships in the industry to further the objectives of the Association’s membership.
Responsibilities: The CEO has the following job responsibilities, performing with appropriate delegations and within the limits the Association’s Charter and Bylaws, and policies established by the Board of Directors.
Membership Services:
- Plan, organize and direct membership retention and growth programs to meet the Association's annual and strategic plans for membership, which includes, but is not limited to current, new members, and affiliate relationships.
- Enhance membership value by conducting research and preparing and implementing programs deemed important to the membership.
- Supervise the continuing development, and serve as the editor, of the Association's Web Page and other official informational sources to ensure members are well informed about their professional obligations, industry related subjects, Association activities and general knowledge, as it relates to their profession.
- Develop and implement forward-looking education programs designed to advance the professional skills and expertise of membership in varying fields.
- Operate the Association's store to ensure members are provided goods and services needed for professional success at a reasonable cost and on a timely basis.
- Plan, coordinate and/or conduct professional and effective membership meetings, tenure and member recognition/promotional programs, member mailings, news releases, new member orientation and termination of delinquent members.
- Communicate the Association's purpose and programs to membership and promote interest and participation in Association activities.
- Administer the Association's Multiple Listing Service.
Financial Planning and Management:
- Prepare the annual financial plan (budget) for submission to Budget and Finance for approval and exercise control of the budget and other arrangements to meet the financial plan as approved by the Board of Directors.
- Review membership dues structures, fees and other membership charges/costs and recommend changes to enhance revenue projections and member benefits.
- Ensure that all funds, physical assets and other Association property are appropriately safe-guarded, accounted for and administered.
- Maintain the Association's financial accounts in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedure.
Staff and Headquarters Management:
- Plan the general administration of the entire Association operation, including the delegation of responsibilities to staff, while maintaining control and providing direction to projects, programs and major activities.
- Establish a sound organizational and staff structure to include planning personnel and equipment requirements to accomplish the Association's mission and goals and the hiring, firing, training, performance and compensation review, promotion and morale of the Association's staff.
- Define staff duties and job descriptions, establish performance standards, and maintain a competitive salary structure.
- Ensure that staff members and the Headquarters operation are efficiently and effectively managed to the benefit of the Association and that staff members are of the highest quality possible, responding to member needs.
- Ensure that management information and other office systems are maintained, integrated and secure, and recommend any necessary industry upgrades and improvements to meet current and future Association needs.
- Maintain timely and accurate membership information, legal and historical documents and databases and providing for the security of the same.
Community and Governmental and Organizational Liaison:
- Become a member of and point of contact for the California and National Association of Realtors and participate in their activities and programs.
- Represent the Association in local governmental matters affecting the real estate industry.
- Act as the Association's spokesperson, as directed by the Board of Directors, and report Association information, activities and member accomplishments to the media in an effective, positive and timely manner.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct public relations programs and innovative Association policies that add to the constructive growth of the Association's influence in both the private and public sectors.
- Establish a positive and effective working relationship with other Associations, legal counsel, CPA, local governmental officials and their staff and affiliate groups and organizations.
Board of Directors Liaison:
- Ensure that the Board of Directors and committee chairpersons and other Association leaders are fully informed of the Association's conditions, plans and activities, and of important factors, which may influence them.
- Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors as an ex officio, non-voting member and ensure official minutes are maintained when required.
- Plan, formulate and recommend for approval by the Board of Directors basic policies, programs and procedures that will implement the Board's policies and further the goals and objectives of the Association.
- Execute Board decisions and other general responsibilities unless otherwise instructed.
- Provide necessary staff support to committee chairpersons and ensure that Committee decisions and recommendations are presented to the Board in a timely fashion.
- Ensure the legal integrity of the Association.
General Duties: The duties of the Employee shall include, but not be limited to the following:
- Attendance at CSMAR Board of Director meetings, and any meetings of the California Association of REALTORS® (CAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role, with a proven track record of managing teams and executing projects in REALTOR® Association(s), Multiple Listing Services and/or the real estate industry.
- Designations such as the RCE and/or CAE designations.
- Resides close enough to be on site/in person at the CSMAR office in Thousand Oaks, California to carry out the duties of the organization. Relocation assistance is available.
Compensation:
Base Salary of $180,000 - $200,000. CSMAR additionally offers a robust benefits package, including health insurance and a variety of other benefits.
